Will this be the season that the Buffalo Bills finally win a Super Bowl? With 37 days to go before the start of the 2022 NFL season, the Bills are the betting favorite to win Super Bowl 57 at +600 odds, and slightly ahead of the Tampa Bay Bucs at +700 odds.

The Kansas City Chiefs and Green Bay Packers were favorites to meet in last year’s Super bowl, but they’re both +1000 odds to win Super Bowl 57. The Packers are one of three teams we think have overvalued odds, along with the Denver Broncos and Dallas Cowboys.

SUPER BOWL 57 ODDS UPDATE
8/1/2022 5/2/2022
Buffalo Bills +600 +650
Tampa Bay Bucs +700 +700
Kansas City Chiefs +1000 +1000
Green Bay Packers +1000 +1000
LA Rams +1100 +1000
LA Chargers +1400 +1600
Dallas Cowboys +1400 +1700
San Francisco 49ers +1600 +1400
Denver Broncos +1600 +1600
Indianapolis Colts +2200 +2200
Baltimore Ravens +2200 +2200
Cleveland Browns +2500 +1700
Cincinnati Bengals +2500 +1800
Arizona  Cardinals +2500 +2500
Philadelphia Eagles +2500 +3500
Tennessee Titans +4000 +3000
Las Vegas Raiders +4000 +3500
Miami Dolphins +4000 +3500
Minnesota Vikings +4000 +4500
New Orleans Saints +4000 +5000

The defending champion LA Rams are +1100 odds as the fifth-highest team on DraftKings’ NFL futures board. It’s nearly impossible to win the Super Bowl in consecutive seasons in the modern NFL, especially with the season expanded to 17 games.

Bills Mafia Revenge

The NFL is a true war of attrition, and the healthiest team in the playoffs typically wins the Super Bowl. Injuries are impossible to predict, but you can limit your downside by backing teams with depth. The Bills have depth in the important positions including Case Keenum as their backup quarterback behind Josh Allen.

Allen is a Tier 1 quarterback, according to the recent and highly-controversial rankings by The Athletic, but Keenum could be a starter for a handful of team. Teams have won the Super Bowl with a backup quarterback (e.g. Nick Foles and the Philadelphia Eagles), but Allen is the heart and soul of the Bills.

The Bills Mafia also have a salty taste in their mouth after losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC divisional round last postseason. The Chiefs defeated the Bills in overtime in one of the greatest NFL playoff games. However, Allen and the bills did not even get the ball once in overtime because the Chiefs scored a touchdown on their first possession to end the game. The NFL altered the rules to make sure both teams get the ball at least once, but the Bills Mafia felt they were robbed.

The Bills lost four consecutive Super Bowls in the 1990s, and it’s been three decades since the start of the runner-up run, but it’s finally the time of reckoning for the Bills. The public is on the Bills Mafia bandwagon too, which is why the Bills are the consensus betting favorite to win the Super Bowl. We already fired a futures bet on the Bills to win Super Bowl 57 at +600 odds.

Overvalued: Packers, Broncos, Cowboys

The Green Bay Packers won 13 games in the last three seasons, but have zero Super Bowl appearances to show for it. The Packers lost in the NFC Championship twice, and were picked off in the quarterfinals last season when the San Francisco 49ers — with a banged up Jimmy G — upset the Packers at the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field. It was a heartbreaking loss considering the Packers were the favorite to win the Super Bowl for most of the season.

After superstar WR Davante Adams bolted in free agency to the Las Vegas Raiders, we lost faith in the Packers to win the big one. Aaron Rodgers will have to get over his trust issues quickly and find a reliable WR that he trusts in crunch time. The Packers are one of the top four favorites on the board at +1000 odds, but the number is inflated due to all the diehard cheeseheads.

The Denver Broncos have a bright future after they acquired Russell Wilson in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks. Everyone thought the Broncos would land Rodgers in a trade, but he surprised everyone when he signed a $200 million contract to remain with he Packers. Wilson is an exceptional Plan B, but it’s going to take a couple seasons before the Broncos can make a run at a Super Bowl. The Broncos saw a boost in their Super Bowl odds to +1600 after the addition of Wilson, but the bookies are minting money on hopeful fans.

The Dallas Cowboys are +1400 odds to win the Super Bowl, but save your money. So long as Mike McCarthy is the head coach and owner Jerry Jones still meddles in a lot of decisions, the Cowboys are not going anywhere.

Dirty Dozen

It’s weird to see the New England Patriots listed among the bottom 12 teams in the NFL futures board, but this is the new world order in the NFL after Brady left New England. The Patriots are still the best of the bottom dozen at +5000 odds to win Super Bowl 57, but that’s a huge gap considering the Bills are the betting favorite at +600. If the Patriots make the playoffs as an AF Wild Card team, I still wouldn’t want to play them.

SUPER BOWL 57 ODDS
NOW 5/2/22
New England Patriots +5000 +4000
Washington Commanders +7000 +6500
Pittsburgh Steelers +9000 +6500
New York Giants +13000 +10000
Carolina Panthers +13000 +10000
New York Jets +13000 +10000
Jacksonville Jaguars +13000 +13000
Chicago Bears +15000 +10000
Seattle Seahawks +15000 +10000
Detroit Lions +15000 +15000
Atlanta Falcons +20000 +15000
Houston Texans +25000 +20000

There’s always at least one surprise team who qualifies for the postseason but missed the playoffs the year before. Could any of those teams be among these bottom 12? The Cincinnati Bengals were +10000 odds at the start of last season, and then ran the table in the playoffs to secure a berth in the Super bowl. Alas, the Bengals ran out of gas in the Super Bowl and could not beat the Rams on their home turf. Aside from the Patriots, there’s not much value at the bottom of the futures board heading into the season.

Earlier in the week, David Purdum from ESPN reported about an intriguing trend in which bettors are firing away at futures bets on the New York Jets to win Super Bowl 57 — currently at +13000 odds — which is shocking considering that bookies set an initial win total for the LOL Jets at 5.5 games.

Zach Wilson LOL New York NY Jets Super Bowl 56 odds futures bettors

As a die-heard and tormented fan of the Jets, there’s a lot of cognitive dissonance going on. In one sense, the LOL Jets are always going to be the LOL Jets so it’s absurd to think people would waste their money on a Super Bowl bet. On the other hand, this offseason has been one of the most hopeful for Gang Green in a very long time.

The Jets are currently +13000 odds to win Super Bowl 57 on DraftKings, or 130/1. They opened at +20000 when sportsbooks opened up futures shortly before Super Bowl 56 kicked off. That’s when the first bets on the Jets began to trickle in at sportsbooks in Las Vegas and offshore.

“I’m not too concerned about the Jets,” Tom Gable from The Borgata sportsbook in Atlantic City told Purdum.

Purdum reported that a bettor wagered $5,000 at 200/1 odds on the Jets to win Super Bowl 57, which would pay out a cool million bucks.

LOL Jets Win Total: 5.5 o/u

Both the New York Giants and New York Jets have been bloody awful the last five seasons. Both inept teams are tied for the worst record in the NFL at 22-59 since 2017. The Jets were 4-13 last season in the first year the NFL expanded the regular season from 16 to 17 games. In 2020, the Jets were 2-14 but couldn’t even table properly when they blew a chance to secure the #1 pick in the draft, which was Trevor Lawrence from Clemson.

The Jets had not been in the playoffs since 2010. He last had a winning season in 2015 when they went 10-6 under Todd Bowles. The team hired Robert Saleh to end their playoff drought and help instill a winning culture for Gang Green.

The Jets currently have a win total of 5.5 season wins. Yes, would you really want to back a team to win the Super Bowl that seems destined for a losing record? The optimist in me like the Jets to win at least six games this season. But the tortured LOL Jets fan that is teased mercilessly from friends is prepared for another season of misery and another winter of discontent.

The Jets do not have a favorable schedule in 2022. They square off against the AFC North to start the season, and aside from the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers, the Jets could potentially start the season 0-9 prior to their bye week in Week 10. The schedule eases up in December with home games against the Detroit Lions and Jacksonville Jaguars, so that’s good news for the worst pessimists that the Jets will at least win one game this season.

The Next Bengals?

Bettors are always looking for value, and trying to find the next Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals were 4-11-1 in 2020 yet went 10-7 in 2021 and secured a berth in Super bowl 56. There’s always at least one playoff team that didn’t make the postseason the previous year. As a Jets fan, it would be awesome if the Jets could qualify as an AFC Wild Card team, but they lack the firepower to make a deep run.

And let’s be brutally honest — Zach Wilson is not even in the same league as Joe Burrow. Perhaps he can become a capable quarterback someday, but even the bulked-up Wilson still has a long way to go before he can lead the Jets to the promised land.

The Bengals are +2000 odds to win Super Bowl 57, but they’re only the tenth-highest team on the NFL futures board at DraftKings.

The Jets are +2200 odds to win the AFC East this season. The Bills are the favorites to win another division title at -225 odds followed by the Miami Dolphins (+450) and the New England Patriots (+500).

The Jets are +7000 odds to win the AFC Championship, and only the Houston Texans have worse odds.

Read more ramblings from a jaded fan of the New York Jets.

Houston Texans +20000 +20000

The Cincinnati Bengals were the runner-up in Super Bowl 56, yet are still at +1800 odds to win Super Bowl 57 after seeing no movement after the draft.

Faves: Bills, Bucs, Rams, Packers, Chiefs

America loves an underdog, and the Buffalo Bills are still trying to win their first-ever Super Bowl. The NFL changed its overtime rules after the Bills got shafted in the greatest playoff game of all time during a heartbreaking loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Divisional Round. You can jump on the Bills Mafia bandwagon and back Buffalo at +650 odds to win Super Bowl 57.

Tom Brady unretired, again making the Bucs a popular favorite along with the Bills to win Super Bowl 57 at +700 odds. Meanwhile, Bruce Arians retired and defensive coordinator Todd Bowles is the new head coach.

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs were upset by Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship last year. They’re on a mission to win a second Super Bowl with Mahomes under center, but they’ll have to do it without the Cheetah after Tyreek Hill bolted to the Miami Dolphins. The Chiefs are a popular pick at +1000 odds to win Super Bowl 57.

Aaron Rodgers remained with the Green Bay Packers after he “got the bag” with the largest quarterback contract in NFL history at $200 million. However, his favorite wideout Davante Adams is now with the Las Vegas Raiders. The Packers are still in the top five on the futures board at +1000 odds to win the championship.

It’s difficult to win back-to-back Super Bowl victories, but the LA Rams find themselves at +1000 odds to pull off the rare feat.

New QBs: Broncos, Browns, Colts

The Denver Broncos didn’t land Rodgers in a trade with the Green Bay Packers, but they snagged Russell Wilson from the Seattle Seahawks instead. The Broncos saw their Super Bowl odds spike after adding Wilson, and everyone in the Rocky Mountains fired away at the Broncos, which is why their Super Bowl odds are now +1600.

The Cleveland Browns shocked everyone when they paid a handsome price in both salary and draft picks to acquire Deshaun Watson from the Houston Texans. The Browns also saw a spike in their Super Bowl odds at +1700.

The Indianapolis Colts parted ways with Carson Wentz because they think Matt Ryan still has some gas left in the tank. Matty Ice doesn’t have to fling it like he did a decade ago in Atlanta, but simply has to hand the ball off to Jonathan Taylor and let him work his magic. The Colts settled for another potential one-year quarterback rental and they’re +2200 odds to win the Super Bowl.

New Head Coaches: Raiders, Dolphins, Vikings, Saints

Josh McDaniel gambled heavily on the Las Vegas Raiders as his new employer and left Bill Belichick’s staff at New England, which was a surprise considering the AFC West is stacked with high-octane offenses. The Raiders are +3500 odds to win a Super Bowl, but that’s more of a pipe dream than anything else.

The Miami Dolphins fired Brian Flores, but added offensive wunderkind Mike McDaniel to help elevate Tua Tagovailoa to an elite quarterback. The Dolphins were a popular fetish pick at +3500 odds.

The Minnesota Vikings hired Kevin O’Connell after he won a Super Bowl with the LA Rams as their offensive coordinator. O’Connell believes in Kirk Cousins (as his former QB coach), but the Vikings will never win the big one with Cousins under center. The Vikes are another pipe dream at +4500 odds.

Sean Payton abruptly retired from the New Orleans Saints, but they hired from within the organization and promoted defensive coordinator Dennis Allen as their new head coach. You can cast all the voodoo spells you want, but Who Dat nation knows the Saints are a long shot at +5000 odds.

What a difference a quarterback makes, eh? Tom Brady announced that he would return to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as their starting quarterback after he reconsidered his retirement, and as a result, the Bucs saw their Super Bowl 57 odds jump from +3000 to +850.

Right now, the Bucs are tied for the third-highest team on the NFL futures board at DraftKings. They were as low as +5000, but bookies noticed a trickle of money last week when rumors suggested Deshaun Watson would join the Bucs in a trade.

The Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs were co-favorites last week, with the prevailing sense that the two would meet in next season’s AFC Championship. Right now, the Bills moved ahead slightly at +700 odds as the outright favorite, while the Chiefs are +750 odds.

SUPER BOWL 57 ODDS – TOP 5

Green Bay Packers +850 +750 +1500
Tampa Bay Bucs +850 +3000 +2200
LA Rams +1100 +1000 +1000

The Green Bay Packers saw a bump in their Super Bowl 57 odds after Aaron Rodgers remained with the team thanks to a $200 million deal. The Packers and Bucs are both +850 odds to win Super Bowl 57.

The defending champion LA Rams are fifth on the futures board at +1100 odds to pull off back-t0-back championships.

Will Gronk and Fournette Return?

Tight end Rob Gronkowski hinted that he’d like to return to western New York and play next season with the Buffalo Bills. He grew up in the Buffalo suburbs and grew up as a Bills fan. However, now that Brady returned to the Bucs, Gronk will now have a tough decision to make.

Brady persuaded Gronk to come out of retirement in 2020 to play for the Bucs after he signed with Tampa Bay. Gronk had a full year to heal his numerous injuries despite a busy schedule in his post-NFL life, which included a stint on the Masked Singer.

At least Brady will have his center back. Ryan Jensen, the anchor of the offensive line, returns to the Bucs after he signed a three-year deal worth $39 million, or an average of $13 million per season.

Left guard Ali Marpet abruptly retired at age 28, but could the GOAT cajole Marpet to return to Tampa’s O-line?

The Bucs will have to make a decision with right guard Alex Cappa, who is about to test free agency waters. With Brady back in Tampa, perhaps Cappa will return for a “TB return” discount.

Running back Leonard Fournette is the biggest name on offense who is a free agent. Fournette, who is a dangerous dual-threat back, is coveted by multiple teams.

On defense, there’s five players of note that are free agents. William Gholston and Ndamukong Suh from the defensive line have a chance to get paid elsewhere or stick around Tampa for a shot at winning another Super Bowl with Brady. Tampa’s secondary will love to have cornerback Carlton Davis and safety Jordan Whitehead return. Veteran linebacker Jason Pierre-Paul is also about to become a free agent.

Jacksonville Jaguars +13000 +8000
Detroit Lions +15000 +15000
New York Jets +20000 +15000
Houston Texans +20000 +15000

The defending-champion LA Rams were installed at +1000 odds to repeat, and their Super Bowl 57 odds did not move this week.

Moving Up: Packers, Broncos, Commanders

The Green Bay Packers won 13 games in each of the last three seasons. Rodgers won the MVP in each of the last two seasons, but the Packers failed to reach the Super Bowl once again. They were upset by the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Divisional Round, after they had consecutive losses in the NFC Championship Game in the two previous seasons.

With Rodgers locked up for the next four seasons for $200 million, the onus is on him to deliver another trip to the Super Bowl and a championship. The Packers jumped from +1500 odds to +750 odds to win the championship in the last 48 hours since news broke that Rodgers will return to the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field.

The Denver Broncos still have a long way to go before they win the Super Bowl, but at least the addition of Wilson puts them in a position to compete in the trigger-happy AFC West. Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs owned the Broncos the last few seasons, so it will be fun to watch a Mahomes/Wilson shootout two times a year in the next half-decade. With that said, the Broncos saw their Super Bowl 57 odds move from +1800 to +1200 after word got out about the Wilson trade with the Seahawks.

The Washington Commanders whiffed in their pursuit of Wilson, and the did not get Jimmy G even though they were rumored to acquire him in a trade with the San Francisco 49ers. It feels like the Commanders had no choice but to settle on renting Carson Wentz for a season. At any rate, he’s a better game manager than Taylor Heinicke. The Commanders saw a bump in their Super Bowl 57 odds from +5000 to +4000, but it’s nothing close to the movement from the Packers or Broncos.

Downtick: Bengals, Seahawks, Bucs

After the Seahawks shipped Wilson to the Broncos in exchange for Drew Lock, their Super Bowl futures tanked. The Seahawks were only +3500 odds with Wilson at quarterback, but plummeted to +10000 with Lock potentially under center.

At +10000 odds, the Seahawks were demoted and lumped into the bottom five with the bottom feeders like the Jacksonville Jaguars (+13000), Detroit Lions (+15000), New York Jets (+20000), and Houston Texans (+20000).

The Cincinnati Bengals saw downward movement in their Super Bowl 57 odds in the last couple of weeks. Joe Burrow and the Bengals were +1200 odds shortly after their loss to the Rams in Super Bowl 56, but you can now back them at +2200 odds.

The Tampa Bay Bucs dropped from +2200 to +3000 odds after Tom Brady retired. The Bucs were interested in acquiring Wilson, but they knew they were longshots. Bruce Arians and the Bucs now set their sights on Deshaun Watson. But how much will they have to overpay the Houston Texans to give up their troubled and disgruntled quarterback?

The New Orleans Saints dropped from +3000 to +4000 over the last few weeks. Their new number accounted for head coach Sean Payton abruptly retiring, in addition to their shaky quarterback situation.

The New York Giants have a new general manager and head coach, but their Super Bowl odds slipped from +6500 to +9000. I wonder what will happens when the Giants sign Mitchell Trubisky? I can see an argument for their odds getting a bump up or down with Trubisky vying for a starting QB job against Daniel Jones.

’80 for Brady’ is produced and developed by Donna Gigliotti from Endeavor Content in conjunction with Brady’s company 199 Productions. The new project from Brady is inspired by the true story of four lifelong New England Patriots fans who go on a road trip to watch their favorite football player in Super Bowl 51.

If you’re a Patriots fan, then you’re well aware of the epic comeback in Super Bowl 51 against the Atlanta Falcons. The Patriots trailed 28-3 at halftime, yet stormed back to win 34-28 and set a record for largest comeback in Super Bowl history. The Patriots shut out the Falcons in the second half, and Atlanta’s defense imploded while giving up 31 unanswered points.

80 for Brady

Emily Halpern and Sarah Haskins made a name for themselves for co-writing the teen coming-of-age comedy ‘Booksmart’ from 2019. Halpern and Haskins penned the original draft, which is inspired by four friends who embark on a zany adventure and road trip to the Super Bowl.

NRG Stadium in Houston hosted Super Bowl 51. In the upcoming film, the quartet of ladies road trip from New England to Texas for an adventure of a lifetime.

The ensemble cast of ’80 for Brady’ includes four iconic actresses. Fields, Fonda, and Moreno previously won Oscars, while Tomlin had been nominated.

Kyle Marvin and Michael Covino penned an updated draft of the script. Marvin will direct the film and he co-wrote the final script with Covino, who is his executive producing partner. Marvin will appear in the upcoming Apple+ series ‘We Crashed’ about the rise and fall of WeWork, which also stars Jared Leto and Anne Hathaway.

Filming for the ’80 for Brady’ movie will begin the spring. Paramount did not specify a release date, but it’s expected to debut in 2022.

Super Bowl 56’s ratings rebounded, up 16.5% over last year. Nielson reported 112.3 million watched the big game on NBC’s television and streaming platforms. Meanwhile, both Nevada and New Jersey reported record sports betting totals for the event.

Super Bowl 56 ratings rebound, watched by 112.3 million television and streaming viewers.

The Los Angeles Rams pulled out a 23-20 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, scoring the winning touchdown in the final minute and a half of play. Although, the Rams weren’t the only winners. NBC and its advertisers scored a decisive ratings win, with the most viewers since 2015.

Super Bowl sets streaming ratings record

Telemundo, NBC’s Spanish language broadcaster, helped boost Super Bowl ratings. This was Telemundo’s first year airing the Super Bowl, drawing 1.9 million viewers. Roughly 99.2 million viewers watched the game live on NBC. Meanwhile, 11.2 million streamed the game, setting a new streaming record. That’s almost double last year’s 5.7 million streaming viewers.

This year’s halftime show drew 103.4 million viewers, up from the 96.7 million who watched it last year. The show featured legendary hip-hop performers, including Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Eminem, and Mary J. Blige.

The NFL used to be a staunch opponent of sports betting. But like all leagues, it now recognizes that sports betting facilitates fan engagement. People tend to watch sporting events when they have skin in the game. So, ratings may have been helped by, what will undoubtedly be, a record year for Super Bowl sports betting.

There is little doubt that Super Bowl 56 will beat sports betting records. There are 30 states with legal sportsbooks, many coming online in the past year. But even legacy sports betting states such as Nevada and New Jersey broke Super Bowl betting records.

Nevada, New Jersey break betting records

The Nevada Gaming Control Board reported that $179.8 million was wagered on this year’s Super Bowl, up from $136.1 million last year. Nevada’s 179 sportsbooks broke the previous record set in 2018. That year, $158.6 million was wagered on the matchup between New England and Philadelphia.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy places state's first legal sports bet.

According to Michael Lawton, analyst for the Nevada Gaming Control Board, this year’s spread made a difference.

“The catalysts for this year’s record was that (Sunday’s) game had two very distinct betting options for customers due to the spread being at – 4½ and the money line wagers, which attracted healthy action on both sides,” Lawton said.

Meanwhile, many wondered if New York’s introduction of mobile sports betting would cut into New Jersey’s Super Bowl betting totals. Even with the added competition, however, New Jersey reported $143.7 million in Super Bowl wagers, well above last year’s total of $117.4 million.

Montana reported $700 million in Super Bowl wagers, while Mississippi posted a $6.4 million handle. Most states have yet to report their Super Bowl handles, but the American Gaming Association is projecting Americans bet $7.6 billion on the game.

New Hampshire and Connecticut should do well, as Massachusetts residents scurried across the state’s border once again to place their Super Bowl bets. This might be the last year for the “Mass. exodus,” however, as the Bay State takes another run at passing sports betting legislation.

The cost of winning a championship can be brutal. Just ask Odell Beckham, Jr. The LA Rams wide receiver suffered an ACL knee injury in the first half of Super Bowl 56 and Beckham never returned to action.

Beckham joined the Rams sideline in crutches and street clothes to watch his teammates rally from behind in the fourth quarter to defeat the Cincinnati Bengals to win Super Bowl 56.

On Monday, and MRI revealed that Beckham tore the ACL in his left knee. It’s the same knee that he injured back midway through the 2020 season when he played for the Cleveland Browns.

Beckham is a free agent, but his future with the Rams is a big question mark. At the same time, it’s common to bounce back from one ACL surgery. However, it’s difficult to return to full form with a second blown-out ACL.

If Beckham returns to the Rams next season, it will have to be at a discount. Before the injury in the Super Bowl, there were rumors that Beckham could join the Kansas City Chiefs next season. That’s still a possibility if he has a speedy rehab. However, since it’s the second time he suffered an ACL injury on the same knee, it’s probably wise to sit out the entire 2022 season and return fully healed in 2023.

Beckham Boosts Rams

Beckham started the 2021 season with the Cleveland Browns. However, quarterback Baker Mayfield suffered a shoulder injury in the first week of the season when he tried to tackle a defender that intercepted him. Mayfield struggled the rest of the season, along with the Browns’ passing attack. Beckham was already frustrated with Mayfield prior to the injury and wanted a bigger role in the offense. After the injury, the vibe in the locker room grew increasingly worse.

In six games with the Browns in 2021, Beckham caught 17 passes for 232 yards and zero touchdowns. In 29 total games, he caught just 114 passes for seven touchdowns and 1,586 yards.

In his five-year career with the New York Giants between 2014 and 2018, Beckham played 59 games. He caught 390 passes for 5,476 yards and 44 touchdowns.

He begged out of Cleveland, which set the table for him to explore other options. When Hollywood called Beckham, it was almost too good to be true with a chance to catch balls from Matthew Stafford. Then again, he’d have to share the ball. At best, he’d be the third option behind Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods.

Beckham’s timing was impeccable. In the week he joined the Rams, Woods suffered a season-ending knee injury in practice. Beckham went from playing third fiddle to a much-needed WR #2.

In eight games with the Rams, Beckham caught 27 passes for 305 yards and five touchdowns. The Rams were 5-1 in games in which he caught five or more passes.

OBJ Bad Beat

Heading into the Super Bowl and with all eyes on Kupp, Beckham would have the more favorable matchup against the Bengals. This came to fruition in the first quarter. Stafford and Beckham hooked up on a 17-yard touchdown pass and the Rams jumped out to a 7-0 lead.

Beckham has two catches for 52 receiving yards, and he was halfway to the coveted century mark before the injury. Then disaster struck. Beckham fell to the turf clutching his left knee. Beckham blew out his ACL in a non-contact injury, and NBC cameras caught the expression of pain and agony on his face after he took off his helmet while medical staff from the Rams attended to him.

“This is everything I’ve ever dreamed of, you know,” said Beckham. “There was a moment I was in the back room and they told me I was done, I couldn’t play. I had to come back out there and be a part of this because it’s so much bigger than myself. And these boys pulled through and made it happen.”

Woods, who had not played since November, was in the locker room to comfort Beckham.

“Actually spent some time with him in the locker room before coming out after halftime and just, really just held him,” explained Woods. “It’s tough. He’s dealt with a lot I would say his whole career. He’s a competitor, I know he’ll be back even stronger and hopefully he’s back with us.”

Without Beckham, the offense sputtered in the third quarter. However, Stafford and Kupp got into a groove in the fourth quarter, especially on the final drive the cumulated into a game-winning touchdown. The Rams beat the Bengals 23-20 to win the Super Bowl. Even though Beckham was on crutches, he was a Super Bowl champion.

The LA Rams produced a sensational comeback on home turf to beat the Cincinnati Bengals in Sunday’s Super Bowl LVI. But it wasn’t just Cooper Kupp’s late touchdown that wowed the 70,000-strong crowd at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, and millions more watching at home. Rappers who performed at the Pepsi-sponsored Super Bowl Halftime Show also booked a big win — even though they supposedly weren’t paid to be there.

It was a historic gathering of A-list performers all sharing the same stage.

Long-time collaborators Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg led a star-studded halftime show with a rendition of the 2000 smash hit “The Next Episode.” The iconic duo was then joined on stage in a surprise appearance from rap legend 50 Cent.

The 14-minute, 11-song set was a proud mashup of old-school hip hop, with a nod to West Coast rappers, as three of the musicians hailed from Southern California, including Snoop Dog, from Inglewood, site of SoFi Stadium.

According to advertising and analytics company Samba TV, more than 29 million households tuned in to watch the halftime show on NBC, a 19% increase from last year, when The Weeknd headlined.

Growth Industry

In addition to Dre and Snoop, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar, and Eminem sent fans wild with their performances. 50 Cent made a surprise appearance, as did Anderson .Paak, who drummed for Eminem on his much-loved inspirational anthem, “Lose Yourself./p>

Produced by Jay-Z and Roc Nation, it was the first-ever Super Bowl halftime show with a completely rap-focused theme.

The all-star show hit the headlines across the globe. And, for some, it even trumped a thrilling Super Bowl that saw the Rams win their second NFL Championship. But just how much of an impact did it have for Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and the rest of the halftime performers?

Online Gambling looked at the data to find out.

Rappers Delight

The highly anticipated Super Bowl halftime show exceeded expectations as some of the music industry’s biggest names rolled back the years to deliver a host of memorable tracks from their back catalogs.

Mary J. Blige reaped the biggest rewards in percentage terms from her appearance across music streaming platforms and social media. Her following across Spotify, Soundcloud, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook almost doubled over the past week as fans flocked to the web in anticipation of the Family Affair songstress taking to the stage.

Snoop Dogg â€?performing a little over 20 miles from his hometown, Long Beach â€?also saw a remarkable rise in his online following. His fan base grew by a little over 40%, with the biggest impact apparent on Instagram, where he now has a whopping 68.6 million followers. (And that number is still growing — adding 500,000 followers in the 12 hours before press time alone.)

2022 Super Bowl Halftime Show Set List

  1. “The Next Episode” (Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg)
  2. “California Love” (Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg)
  3. “In Da Club” (50 Cent)
  4. “Family Affair” (Mary J. Blige)
  5. “No More Drama” (Mary J. Blige)
  6. “M.A.A.D City” (Kendrick Lamar)
  7. “Alright” (Kendrick Lamar)
  8. “Forgot About Dre” (Kendrick Lamar and Eminem)
  9. “Lose Yourself” (Eminem with Anderson .Paak on drums)
  10. “I Ain’t Mad at Cha” (instrumental) (Dr. Dre)
  11. “Still D.R.E.” (Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar, and 50 Cent)

Compton-raised Dr. Dre and Kendrick Lamar also saw sizeable jumps in their respective followings. Dr. Dre’s biggest rise came on Facebook as fans swarmed to check in on updates from the music mogul ahead of the show-closing performance of “Still D.R.E.” Kendrick Lamar’s Spotify monthly listeners, meanwhile, surpassed the 31million mark as fans got in the mood for his California homecoming.

Eminem has by far the biggest following of the Super Bowl halftime show lineup. His total fans jumped up 14.54% over the past 7 days, to bring his readily reachable fan base to over 200 million. Not too shabby particularly as the SoFi Stadium showpiece allowed the rapper the opportunity to collaborate with old friends again.

Streaming fortunes on Spotify

None of the icons who performed on Sunday were paid for their performances. But with their names on the lips of NFL and music fans alike ahead of the Rams vs Bengals face-off, this performance was hardly a charity show.

Over the past week, Eminem racked up $101,000 through streams as his hits “Without Me,” “The Real Slim Shady,” “Till I Collapse,” and “Lose Yourself” — all four of which entered Spotify’s top 200 charts over the past week.

Dr. Dre also benefited from his headliner role. His newly released track, “Gospel,” was streamed more than 4 million times during the past week to land him a tidy paycheck of $18,000.

Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg’s timeless collaboration “Still D.R.E.” amassed over 2.7 million streams to give the pair $12,000 to split.

Not necessarily huge money for famous rap stars. But it all adds up.

Social media superstars

Streaming isn’t the only way these performers stood to profit from the Super Bowl Halftime Show. Stardom on social media also pays.

Snoop Dogg has a massive Instagram following of 68.6 million. The value of a single post to them weighs in at $370,000 for any sponsored post he shares.

Eminem also stands to add to his fortune if he uses the photo-sharing platform to reach his fans with a paid-for promotion. With 34 million followers on the Gram, a sponsored post from him would sell for $184,000.

Not to be sniffed at, $54,000 is on offer to Kendrick Lamar if he chooses to do the same. While Mary J. Blige and Dr. Dre can command $31,000 and $27,000 to send a promotional message to their respective Instagram followings of 5.7M and 4.9M people.

This data, of course, does not confirm that any of these stars were selling their feeds during the Super Bowl. What it shows is that these performers know how to reach the masses. And on Super Bowl Sunday, that’s an especially valuable trait.

Methodology

Online Gambling used Soundcharts.com to track the growth of Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar, and Eminem’s followings across social media and music streaming platforms over a 7-day period around the Super Bowl. By monitoring Spotify’s top 200 charts we were able to identify how many streams the artists’ top tracks received daily. These figures were then multiplied using The Trichordist’s earnings per stream calculation, which states artists can earn $0.00437 for every stream of their music. Snoop Dogg and Mary. J Blige did not appear on this list individually as their songs did not enter the charts over the past week. To calculate how much the halftime performers could make via Instagram, we used the Hopper HQ Instagram Richlist. This platform forecasts celebrities can earn $0.00541911 per follower for a sponsored post.

Kupp was +600 odds to win MVP and he was the third-highest player on the board behind both starting quarterbacks in Super Bowl 56.

With the victory for the Rams, Sean McVay becomes the youngest head coach in NFL history to win a Super Bowl. McVay was the youngest head coach in NFL history when the Rams initially hired him at age 30. The wunderkind became the youngest head coach at age 33 to secure a berth in the Super Bowl 53, but McVay and the Rams fell short of the mark when Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots prevailed. It took him a second trip to the Super Bowl before he finally emerged as a winner at age 36.

“For the offense to be able to find a way, and then Aaron to be able to finish it off, it’s poetic, man,” said McVay.

The Rams made several bold moves and went all-in on a championship this season. That included leveraging the future by trading quarterback Jared Goff and multiple first-round draft picks to acquire Matthew Stafford from the Detroit Lions. Linebacker Von Miller and wide receiver Odell Beckham, Jr. were late-season addition to the roster, but both transactions paid off.

The Rams won 23-20, but the Bengals covered as a +4.5 underdog. The closing total was 48.5 o/u and the under hit.

First Half: OBJ Goes Down

The Bengals won the coin toss, which has a slight historical significance, because the last seven teams that won the toss ended up losing the Super Bowl.

The Rams jumped out to an early 7-0 lead on a 17-yard touchdown strike from Stafford to Beckham, which capped off a 50-yard drive thanks to great field position.

The Bengals got on the board late in the first quarter with a chip-shot field goal from the red-hot Evan McPherson, and they cut the lead to 7-3.

In the second quarter, Kupp caught his first touchdown on the night on a 11-yard dart from Stafford. It capped off a 75-yard drive, but they botched the extra point, and only led 13-3.

The Bengals strung together their only touchdown drive in the first half thanks to a short touchdown on a trick play in the red zone. Running back Joe Mixon connected with Tee Higgins for a touchdown. They trimmed the deficit to 13-10 heading into halftime.

The Rams incurred a huge hit when they lost Beckham to a non-contact knee injury. He fell to the turf while clutching his knee and needed assistance off the field. Beckham did not return to the game. He finished the night with two catches for 52 yards and one touchdown.

3Q: Near Implosion

It did not take long before the Bengals seized the lead on the first play of the season half. Burrow and Higgins hooked up on a 75-yard touchdown. Replays showed that Higgins got away with grabbing Jalen Ramsey’s facemask, which officials missed. The Bengals seized the lead 17-13.

On the Rams first possession in the second half, they coughed the ball up. Stafford threw his second interception on the game on a tipped pass. The Rams defense came up big and prevented the Bengals from scoring another touchdown. They held the Bengals to a second McPherson field goal, but the Rams fell behind 20-13.

The Rams answered with three points on the ensuing drive, courtesy of a 41-yard field goal from Matt Gay. Yet, they still trailed 20-16. With the Rams down by four points, the missed extra point looked like it could come back to bite them in the arse.

4Q Comeback: ’15 Wanda Now X Fade’

The Rams’ smothering defense shut down the Bengals in the fourth quarter. Aaron Donald and the D-Line had several huge plays, particularly on third downs, to keep the Rams in the game.

The Rams got the ball back with six-plus minutes remaining. Stafford engineered a game-winning touchdown drive thanks to multiple extra chances due to a couple of ticky-tack pass interference calls. With the ball on the 1-yard line, McVay called “15 Wanda Now X Fade” with Kupp running the fade route, which typically would get executed by Beckham. With Beckham sidelined, the Rams ran the play for Kupp. Stafford threw a perfect pass and Kupp scored his second touchdown of the game. The Rams regained the lead 23-20 with 1:25 to go.

The Rams defense slammed the door shut on the comeback and forced the Bengals to turn the ball over on downs. Once again, Donald and the D-Line came up big time and the Rams held on to win 23-20.

The Rams sacked Burrow seven times in Super Bowl 56 for a total loss of 43 yards. Miller and Donald notched two sacks apiece.

“You got to be relentless,” said Donald. “You want something bad enough you’ve got to go get it. All offseason you work, you train, you got camp, you got a long season just for this one game. You know we the last team standing.”

Kupp tallied 99 combined yards from scrimmage in the Super Bowl, including eight catches for 92 receiving yards and two touchdowns. The game-winning grab locked up the MVP for Kupp.

“That’s hard work, that’s hours together,” said Stafford. “I just thank coach. He kept calling plays for Coop, kept finding ways to get him the ball. He made unbelievable plays. That’s what he does.”

Stafford finished the game with 283 yards and three touchdowns.

Bengals Magical Season Dunzo

The Bengals defense shut down the Rams’ running attack in the Super Bowl, and the Rams only mustered up 43 yards on 23 attempts. The Bengals held LA’s Cam Akers to just 21 rushing yards on 13 attempts.

Burrow finished with 263 yards, one touchdown, and zero interceptions. Joe Mixon added 72 rushing yards on 15 attempts. He also added a touchdown pass via the trick play in the first half.

“I was disappointed in my performance overall,” said Burrow. “That’s going to propel us into next year. We’re not satisfied with what we did this year.”

Higgins led the Bengals 100 yards and two touchdowns. Ramsey and the Rams secondary kept rookie Ja’Marr Chase in check with just five catches and zero touchdowns, but he still cobbled together 89 yards.

The Bengals are +1200 odds to win Super Bowl 57 next season, and the Rams are +1000 odds to pull off back-to-back championships.
